AT TWENTY store by VERB + PARA, Causeway Bay – Hong Kong

The design started with a minimal approach that the geometry has been stripped down to it fundamental state. The existing structural frame of the facade have been revealed and preserved, while a new grid works has been implemented at the interior to define different zones.

The store’s design concept is “Black Is New Black” that is newly developed to satisfy diverse demands and site characteristics. Targeting mainly local Western people, glossy black, gold and white colors are chosen for the interior with the image of Paris.

A classic shopfront of clean frames and glazing are used to draw patrons in, allowing an opportunity to get a glimpse of the interior before entering. The façade uses darker tones to introduce a sense of masculinity to contrast the feminine floral motifs.

The colors were chosen in a way to make the customers feel luxurious walking into the store. The wooden textures all around the store combined with the custom made light fixtures hung from the exposed ceiling gives the store a modern eye catching look.

The interior design boldly takes cues from its former cradle, featuring tiled up surfaces and furnishings, and as if to flaunt an evolution of sorts, walls clad in matching vertical planking. The all-white interior is offset by suspended and moveable clothing racks in a bright red hue.

OS & OOS dismissed bland carpets and tiles reminiscent of medical examination rooms in favour of raw concrete in line with Eindhoven’s historical architecture style.

Materials such as steel, brass, velvet or natural stones such as onyx are present in a space that has been configured through different stagings. In addition, through the itinerary, it is possible to find elements such as cordoned areas, that –in the same way that happens in large museums- emulate the presence of important art treasures.

The cavernous space is celebrated with long sight lines, mirrors and the repetition of vertical perimeter elements to accentuate perspective. The signage is a three-dimensional steel frame ‘END.’ that extends into the store.

Inspired by a TV studio, the space delivers a dynamic live stream of of-the-moment content, fashion and inspiration. It captures the Snapchat generation’s short attention span and desire for the new, with a constantly changing space, bursting with “jaw-to-the-floor” shareable moments, stage sets and real-time digital displays, where co-created brand content comes to life.

The interior setting, once again created by local practice Akin Creative, is modern and follows clean lines inspired by 1950s modernism. Captured by a simple palette of timber and concrete, and paired with custom-made light fixtures and curated photographic artworks, it’s a welcoming open space that fuses the dynamics of retail with those a meeting place for likeminded spirits.

CADA Design’s monochromatic scheme showcases the brands iconic pastel packaging ranges. Integrated strip lighting has been placed into the shelving units to highlight the products, drawing the customers eye and in turn increasing sales.

The store has been constructed and built with local people and local designers for the lighting and wooden furniture. South African craftsmanship as portrayed in the wood cladding telling the Starbucks story of her Siren, her hairs painted by South African artist Kurt Pio.
