Charlotte’s Speakeasy by studioBIG, Farmingdale – New York

The design of the speakeasy carries through the colors and character of the yogurt shop and the historic wood-frame building that houses both establishments. Upstairs, sunny yellows and blues convey charm and hospitality; downstairs, glamorous gold and rich navy act as their sultry, adult versions. Dark wood and painted tin ceilings add to the effect.

Visual cues, like distinctive blue and white floor tiles and floating white ceiling planes, lead visitors through the space. The pattern of the floor tiles continues onto the optical display cases and pharmacy desk to draw attention to points of customer service.

StudioBIG’s owner and lead designer Leah Plevrities designed the interiors, branding, and signage to convey a clean, modern aesthetic. Whites and blues create a cool, hygienic-looking palette, while touches of wood provide warmth and a nod to the pharmacy’s natural, organic focus.

The glass bottle feature walls with wooden planks visually references the inspiration of the colored glass bottles and natural infusions of Mamajuana. Custom-designed test tube chandeliers hang above the bar, where bartenders use eyedroppers to add healthy tinctures and house-made bitters to cocktails crafted to promote health and cure ailments.
