Da Portare VIA by Studio Modijefsky, Zwolle – Netherlands

To emphasize the height of the ceilings, special large frames, angled forward, were created to decorate the walls. Some have been used to frame the pizza menu, bar menu and VIA logo and are an enhanced with the addition of indirect light and VIA’s bright yellow color. Lighting plays a leading role in the design of the interior.

Digging deep into the history of the building, Studio Modijefsky has created a design with strong references to the past. As a tram depot there were several activities taking place in the space giving service to the run down trams, such as electricity, paint, wood and metal work. These skills and the tools and work spaces they require, inspires the material and colour palette of the new interior and are means to divide the new restaurant space into different zones.

Chalky walls, floor and ceiling finishes are complemented with special elements such as a wooden bar and a pizza oven with a weathered corten steel finish.

Bar Botanique by Studio Modijefsky, Amsterdam – Netherlands

Inspired by the old railings in the café, the new railings reach up to the high ceiling and create a clear path between the bar and lounge area. Warm oak plinths cover the floor while a bright green concrete floor naturally connects the different areas of the interior.

The Roast Room by Studio Modijefsky & Studio Molen, Amsterdam – Netherlands

The Roast Room’s mascot, The Butcher, a plump figure with a long nose, appears in various forms around the space: in a drawing of him pasted on the front window, or as a shiny statue standing in the kitchen, while his chopped-off leg is the restaurant’s logo and can also be found hanging outside the main entrance.
