Having been completed in February 2017, the pared-back, urban influences are apparent from the curbside as the shop’s façade features a metal “grid” which, in conjunction with the lighting scheme, is meant to reference the entrance canopies of NYC’s grand, landmark buildings.

At the store front, the architecture presents itself as a basic modular shelving system that is devoid of color and texture in order to highlight the objects displayed inside. This simple construction lines the interior of the space, producing the effect of phenomenal depth.

A feature wall made of seeming knitted thick teal wiring climbs the back wall and becomes a focus within the store. The collection of glasses are displayed throughout in the backlit shelves, tables or encased in the glass counters.

The studio, led by designer Jeremy Barbour, again opted to recycle a high volume of material at this retail space in DC. The team took 30,000 southern pine sticks – traditionally used to dry leaves at Georgetown’s tobacco barns – and repurposed them as a wall covering. The individual rectangle-section rods were cut and arranged into an uneven mosaic across the eastern wall of the corner unit, creating a “dynamic rippled surface”.
