Medly Pharmacy by Sergio Mannino Studio, New York City

Pops of mint and light aqua accentuate the brightness of the intriguingly bare pharmacy, with by a mint-coloured mesh wall and doorway separating the retail area from the back area where the prescriptions are organized and packaged. A cheeky pill motif in the floor tiles echoes the Medly-brand packaging selectively displayed on the shelves, while a large green-dipped cement counter in front of the mesh wall supports relational exchanges between pharmacist and patient.

The large, wooden oak feature found within the space is representative of an apple tree and is supposed to connect different spaces of the boutique such as the shop with relaxation areas and the gallery.

A project inspired to Italian Renaissance featured by black and white contrast, by the variation of transparent and glazed surfaces and by the research of material and chromatic details, that involved customer in a pleasant place where to stay and to explore, letting itself engaged by product’s interaction and in the relation with staff.

A characteristic feature of the composition was the rounded wall corners. These give a sense of spatial continuity, embracing with a smooth and gentle manner the inside space. The products are placed on shelves around the room therefore, releasing a central spacious area that allows easy movement for both customers and employees.

StudioBIG’s owner and lead designer Leah Plevrities designed the interiors, branding, and signage to convey a clean, modern aesthetic. Whites and blues create a cool, hygienic-looking palette, while touches of wood provide warmth and a nod to the pharmacy’s natural, organic focus.

The use of wood and the contrast between white and black colour makes every corner special, while the use of distinctive light features the furniture design and the products. The design intends in the construction of a modern and contemporary pharmacy shop which, except the service counter, gives the feeling of an equilibrium wellness area.

The metal, lightweight glass and transparent acrylics are crisscrossing, and straight lines are adopted to build the display racks which is in longitude-and-latitude shape; just as repeated expanding of the molecule – with drugs put on them, the display racks seem to disappear from the space, while the colorful drugs act as paintings to color the walls.

We have selected our materials to create the impression of being in a pharmacy that is at once “natural, intimate, professional and accessible”. The most distinctive finishing touch is the design of a corporate herringbone pattern which with we have manufactured MDF panels overlayed on natural wood to completely cover the walls and furniture.
