Forest store by and then-studio, London – UK

Functional and neon lighting provides feature points, while reclaimed wood contrasts with stark metal and the industrial aesthetic of the railway arch interior. Terracotta pots, the polished concrete floor, textures from the various wares and the vibrant green of the fauna all works together to form a seamless identity that defines Forest’s space.

Storage is provided by matching pink cabinetry, while lighting in the ceiling illuminates the volume at night. Inside the restaurant has been completed almost entirely in dark grey terrazzo with oversized white aggregate, which the architects used to create an “extreme visual experience”.

More than 900 PET plastic bottles have been reused, rather than the usual fate of being thrown away in the environment, and transformed into delicate flowers. Hanging from the ceiling in wired modules, a total of 2,500 small flowers were individually hand painted in gold, nude pink and white by craft artist Rita Aranha, granting the personality and visual identity of the brand.

Taken cues from PANDORA’s geometric honeycomb charm design, YourStudio have designed and built an immersive 5 meter high installation called ‘The Hive’ to replicate a working beehive. This includes ‘Humming Hubs’ that incorporate scent and sound, LED light panels that mimic the movement of bees and the Pandora product housed in the scent-infused stigmas of gold-plated flowers to create a genuine multi-sensory experience.

A classic shopfront of clean frames and glazing are used to draw patrons in, allowing an opportunity to get a glimpse of the interior before entering. The façade uses darker tones to introduce a sense of masculinity to contrast the feminine floral motifs.

‘Flower pavilion’ by Laisné Roussel for Lyon Architecture Biennale, Lyon – France

As part of the month-long event, Paris-based practice Laisné Roussel has constructed the “Flower pavilion” — an inhabitable installation inspired by greenhouses and the vibrant vegetation they contain. Inside the structure, a double spiral staircase leads visitors through a vertically organized garden to an observation platform designed for contemplation.
