Louis Vuitton store redesign by Peter Marino, New York City

Japanese artist Shuji Mukai was commissioned to hand-paint three columns within the store, with a design that relates directly to the gutai art movement popular in the 1950s and 60s. Peter Marino angled the wall behind the columns to make the artwork a focal point, while simultaneously re-directing circulation. In addition, Italian artist Giuseppe Penone has installed pieces made of molded leather and bronze — materials employed to lend the scheme a “natural ruggedness”.

The choice of materials palette, initially inspired by the brief, during the design phase became more related to our desire to experiment with materials, especially casted concrete and explore themes of form and frame. In fact the brass is introduced to the space in its standardize form, directly informing the concrete table and podiums.

Patchwork made of various materials is consistent with the refreshed visual identifcation of BIZUU brand. Interior of the boutique, where the walls are covered with black and white carrara marble pattern, are complemented by a pink, perforated sheet metal and black, contrastive edges.

Milky white textured walls and white floor create a clean and white space. Bamboo poles are set up and hemp rope is used to connect them, clothes racks are thus formed.

The store’s main design feature is a custom made sculptural radial steel clothing rack modeled from the ‘golden ratio’ that sits in the middle of the store, gently guiding the customer’s journey and exhibiting the latest clothing collections.

Through the tantalising gaps in the floral inspired Corian façade, glimpses of a discreet and restrained chamber can be gathered. The forest like verticality of the timber cladding and geometric step detail framing the mirrors provide contrast to the whimsical Corian.

Situated on the second floor, the new outpost measures a sizeable 220 sqm and is obviosuly designed according to Michele’s new and guidelines, featuring a more homey yet still very sumptuous palette with inlaid coloured marble floorin, contemporary fixtures and classic-inspired sofas and chairs.

Two golden and continuous horizontal bands along the walls define the perspective lines. They suggest a clear path to follow and separate the volumes. The shelves draw two steady contours without interruption along the walls, at times changing height to enliven the display. Traditional clothes-hanger bars are substituted with single brushed brass square loops that emphasize the importance of each garment, making it stand out along the walls and spotlighting its uniqueness.
