Flos installation by Vincent Van Duysen at Light + Building 2018, Frankfurt am Main – Germany

Designed by Vincent Van Duysen, the installation is inspired by the idea of a secret garden – within the stand, lush greenery is completely enveloped by neutral grey flooring and wall surfaces, allowing the lighting to stand out as the only design element.

The installation consists of a steel skeleton enclosed by a fluorescent pink-orange vinyl. This waterproof plastic material has never been used in a building and was constructed on site in a completely hand-made process. A yellow wooden platform is attached to the installation, continuing the interactive experience by allowing visitors to jump into the canal for a swim.

Atlas exhibition at Torre by OMA, Milan – Italy

Named ‘Torre’, or ‘Tower’, the soaring structure rises above Fondazione Prada, and the neighborhood as a whole. Visible from afar, the tower’s irregular geometry follows a structural logic. ‘The tower is built from large-span concrete beams that alternate in orientation from level to level, creating an alternating open/closed pattern on each façade,’ says OMA. ‘These beams are tied to a slender concrete core which contains all the services and circulation.’

The architects of kluge retail.brand.architecture followed the idea of huge LightClouds floating above the stand site. These key elements serve as basis for the three-dimensional brand representation, structure the stand space and create a high name recognition of both Regiolux and lichtwerk.

USM fair stand by UNStudio at Salone del Mobile 2018, Milan – Italy

As a result, this year’s USM stand at Salone del Mobile brings furniture design to an architectural scale, creating the biggest piece of USM modular furniture ever built. In total, 1,015 panels, 5,008 balls, 13,318 tubes and 8.9 tons of material have been used.

We used versatility as a conceptual frame. A low-definition modular design complemented with an external semi-transparent digital printed fabric skin. The modular elements are easily reusable giving shape to ever new display spaces and the fabric skin is a communicating surface providing always new messages and identity. Adopting semi-transparent walls to display solid ceramic surfaces was a challenge.

The exhibition stand was constructed from two semi-transparent fabric skins, the outer skin created a white cube, the inner skin was broken up into fragments, thus setting a strong contrast to the cube. Between the two covers spots brightly illuminate the walls. Focus points were seven HPL pyramids piercing through the inner skin, each surface of a pyramid was equipped with an application-specific HPL.

Various product categories such as Vinyl, Laminate flooring etc. are represented by letters resembling the periodic table to enhance the experimental setting. With „Open Frameworks“, a modular flooring system designed by Hadi Teherani, visitors can even create their own flooring patterns at designated layout tables.

Rays slowly evolve in real, three-dimensional space, emphasizing the typically-unseen, sculptural qualities of light. The genesis of each installation is a two-dimensional line-drawing. The resulting volumes cast by light can be occupied and explored by visitors as they move throughout the main hall at pioneer works.
