Solid Light Works installation by Anthony McCall

Rays slowly evolve in real, three-dimensional space, emphasizing the typically-unseen, sculptural qualities of light. The genesis of each installation is a two-dimensional line-drawing. The resulting volumes cast by light can be occupied and explored by visitors as they move throughout the main hall at pioneer works.

The glass doors, with visual circuit pattern, make the reception open-plan with the rest of the office. By knocking down the wall and removing the old ceiling, the size of the floor space almost doubled and light came flooding in. We designed stray lights and adjustable lights, so the ceiling reflects light which creates the illusion of greater depth.

We painted part of the walls and the ceiling in dark grey to add contrast and intimacy to the atmosphere. For warmth, we opted for the wooden finishes of the tables & chairs, paired with the soft, textured fabric that hugs the chairs.

The biggest challenge was to find solution with ceiling with different height of six meters. That was solved with structural metal construction connected with lightning – that not only created eye catching view in the front of the shop but has formed lower ceiling as well.

The floor and mass of the walls were finished with gray colored main stone with minimal design. White marble pillars and floor patterns give special characters to the space. Through wall, situated at the edge of RE: BAR, opens up and closes the space smoothly. Furniture of the lounge was placed to offer a warm, cozy feeling to remind a living room and a den.

Walking up the dark-black staircase guests arrive into a bright, modern restaurant space where the white and powder blue colour palette provide a stark contrast to the ground floor. The ceiling has been removed to expose the roof structure and light wooden columns divide the fireplace area from the rest of the restaurant.

Open House by Klein Dytham Architecture, Bangkok – Thailand

Instead of occupying one box-like retail unit, Open House’s bookstore weaves its way throughout the entire Open House space. A tall book shelf has been installed at one end of the space, while a large double-height library wall wraps around the other. Smaller book shelves with integrated seating are scattered throughout, blending into the bar and restaurant spaces so people can browse at their leisure.

We positioned ceiling mirrors and rear mirrors by having these needs in mind. The reflecting image is purposefully positioned and the mirrors will allow customers to follow up with their procedures in detail.

A room-in-room concept with transparent booths, decorative ceiling elements, object lamps and design highlights under roof create atmosphere and harmonic ambience. Random patterns of reclaimed black metal strips and circular pipes wrap the reception area wall. Where the metals are aligned very precisely into a complex yet rigid algorithm like the sleek piping systems of a car, the timber on the other hand gives the space a pulsating and movement like pattern as it randomly fills the ceiling moving from the entrance all around to the open bar area.

The resin veil inspired by the traditional bamboo work and created by the local craftsmen will protrude from the floor to the ceiling to envelop the space and as it acts as a shade for days with strong sunlight, like a sail receiving the breeze from the sea, and a cocoon to wrap the guests gently at night.
