FRENN store by Pentagon Design, Helsinki – Finland

The aesthetic bears all the hallmarks of Scandinavian design, but is also infused with materials and colours that lend it a cosmopolitan edge. The indigo blue wall ties in with the brand’s new graphic design that also bears the signature of the aforementioned agency. Furnishings are sparse, comprising merely of shelving, a display, a sales counter, and all seamlessly blend into the understated setting.

It’s divided into two levels and is entirely furnished in light blue damask with matching chairs and carpet, evoking a feeling of femininity and harmony. Large mirrors stretching from the floor to the ceiling complete the decoration.

Additional furnishings and fixtures comprise of specially commissioned pieces by designer Max Lamb, ceiling lights by Paris-based designer Benoît Lalloz, and sleek metal shelving and clothing racks.

Issey Miyake store by Naoto Fukusawa, Kyoto – Japan

The interior of the storied premises has been created by designer and longtime collaborator Naoto Fukusawa, and is inspired by the classic japanese sumi or ink colour. The retail setting is simple and understated, balancing the structure’s original elements with subtle modern interventions that allow the colourful merchandise to pop across two floors.

Largely defined by free-standing partition walls and transparent strip-curtains, the space is furnished with carefully selected contemporary furniture pieces. A beautifully exposed vaulted wooden roof ties in all sections of the store.

Occupying 70 sqm. [754 sq.ft.] set across the first and second floors of a modern midrise building, the setting concocted by creative director Jonny Johansson includes stainless steel cubes, clothing racks in a golden hue, and mirror displays, all tied in by wall-to-wall fluffy blue carpeting.
