The White Tower Gift Shop by Kinnersley Kent Design, London – UK

The White Tower contains several floors of weaponry and armour and visitors exit via the 900 sq ft gift shop, which sells an incredible 370,000 pieces of merchandise per annum. The brief for the redesign had four key aims: first, to create an exciting and engaging retail experience; secondly, to improve customer flow and circulation; thirdly, to take a sympathetic approach to enhance the natural theatre and character of the building; and fourth and finally to facilitate product merchandising, using individual or grouped product narratives.

V&A Museum shop by Friend and Company, London – UK

It forms one of the main routes into the exhibition spaces, so had to also accommodate people passing through. It was this that led Friend to design the shop as a pair of pavilions – creating “a concept of lanes and street facades”.

Project “11” is one of those small shops located in the heart of Bazaar dedicated to producing and selling stamps. Duo to the oldness of the building we had to reconstruct some parts of the roof and walls in order to make it safe.

A roofed-patio with restroom was placed on the outside where markets and workshops can take place to promote the porcelain. Remnants of the porcelain artistry can be seen throughout the structure.

The soft tone of large oak floorboards laid in a large-scale herringbone pattern goes perfectly with the rough surface of the internal walls treated with a fine-grained, mineral based plaster. The protagonists of the showroom are certainly the Occhio products themselves, displayed on so-called „space-stations“ – representing the Occhio universe.
