The unique character of the store gets its identity through the form of a hexagonal diamond shape, which returns in different places in the shop. This form determinates everything, from the contours of the new furniture to the graphic design.

New York City-based architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox not only supervised the transformation master plan of the popular Covent Garden shopping zone, but also gifted Carriage Hall, as the new home of The Shop at Bluebird is called, its most striking architectural feature: the inner courtyard’s glass roof. The modern intervention allows in floods of daylight to permeate the entire premises.

Over six hundred units of the “carry stool” were combined and stacked to form a display system along the surface of the walls. Other simple pieces from the Ishinomaki Laboratory collection such as the “aa stool” and “ma series” were introduced as display platforms for the store’s merchandise.

Comprising of a simple construction of five steel bars, x-shaped at either end and connected horizontally, this specific object has been abundantly duplicated to construct an installation, entitled unbounded, that fully transposes its original purpose. No less than 91 steel modules have been pre-assembled and allow endless configurations.

Polycarbonate shelves are used to define the corridors. Besides displaying products, the translucency and transparency of the shelves give the visual connection between the outside and the inside, and also between the corridor and the “tables” area. Changeable polycarbonate sheets can be rearranged to emphasize certain products and create a fresh look.
