XMOS office by Amarelle, Bristol – UK

We designed a space for XMOS that hits on the future of technology, a space to show off their voice activation hardware and bring this technology to life within the space. We wanted to include some futuristic elements that gave a nod to popular culture, Knight Rider, The Star Ship Enterprise for example, without going over the top.

The biggest challenge was to find solution with ceiling with different height of six meters. That was solved with structural metal construction connected with lightning – that not only created eye catching view in the front of the shop but has formed lower ceiling as well.

Hotel Domizil by DIA – Dittel Architekten, Tübingen – Germany

The design is derived from the name of the hotel and the character of the city. The »Domizil« (= home) exudes a good feeling, resulting in a bright mood and rousing confidence. The peaceful effect of the Neckar River and its colours are incorporated into a harmonious concept.

The main display was located in a construction inspired by modern mountain shelters. It consists of two joints cabins with characteristic sloped roofs. Its façade was covered with dark wood, often seen in traditional mountain architecture. The interior walls were, in contrast, lined with pine plywood, which gave it a feeling of warmth.

Harsh conditions also entail raw materials. After dismantling the existing suspended ceiling, a raw reinforced concrete ceiling appeared. We decided to leave it in the same condition with all the holes caused by slings, scratched paint and cracks.

A homogenous appearance was achieved by making use of only one material, which, in turn, was predominantly used in black. The material contrasts both with the tall, bright walls and the OSB surfaces that were already installed during the renovation.

A completely new building was built in the space where the service rooms used to be to house the rest of the guest rooms: Blue, Green, Pink and Yellow which are vertically arranged around the central patio. With terraces and a harmonious chromatic palette, each guest room creates environments in tune with the complex.

A project inspired to Italian Renaissance featured by black and white contrast, by the variation of transparent and glazed surfaces and by the research of material and chromatic details, that involved customer in a pleasant place where to stay and to explore, letting itself engaged by product’s interaction and in the relation with staff.

Designers divided the whole space (over 600 square metres) by using semi transparent screens and Chinese garden windows. Creating a picture in the scene and a scene in the picture, both of them complement each other, forming a wonderful visual centre.

The 2-story entry plaza contains dramatic 20’ high branded messaging elements as well as a reception point and hospitality zone complete with espresso machine and a horizontal touch screen for a variety of leveraged content. SkB developed branding concepts and owned the static branding design.

Somriures dental clinic by Masquespacio, L’Alcudia / Valencia – Spain

Being the specialty of Somriures the creation of ‘beautiful smiles’, the design from the dental clinic is highlighted through a sculpture of 2884 strips wooden strips that hang from the ceiling and overwhelm some of the main walls with the aim to recreate a smile.

A characteristic feature of the composition was the rounded wall corners. These give a sense of spatial continuity, embracing with a smooth and gentle manner the inside space. The products are placed on shelves around the room therefore, releasing a central spacious area that allows easy movement for both customers and employees.

The sculpture is formed from very strong, highly engineered fibers in vibrant colors which are braided, knotted, and spliced together to form a lightweight net that reacts to the movement of the wind. At night, colored lights are projected onto the piece to add to its vibrancy.

The scheme for the Hub included the development of a fresh color and materials palette with a number of varied break-out and ad-hoc meeting environments. The new facilities have been a great success, creating new working meeting and refreshment zones for all personnel.
