The restaurant is filled with rough unprocessed surfaces – complex brickwork, metal parts, concrete columns. Since this is a purely fish restaurant, many decoration details directly refer to the topic. Allusions associated with marine themes appear in the large shelving with three-level aquariums, in the large bar open window where the fresh fish is cooked in front of the guests, and even in the glazed monochrome tile behind the bar, colored like seawater with algae.

The whole project incorporates natural materials from sustainable sources: floors and tabletops made of bamboo and ceilings and shelves made of pine wood. Nature is incorporated into the interior design with a modular vertical garden system placed at the entrance and at the back of the dining room salad bar. Also, at the basement, nature is presented in a large natural parterre.

The concept encapsulates a black ceiling, with their new signature orange colour, wrapped over via C-channel beams. A timber light fitting is suspended from the ceiling, over tables & banquette seating, and a customised cartoon is applied to the walls.

We doubled its size and height and integrated it within the space outside creating a European style square thanks to its patterned design of cobblestones. We tried to recycle the biggest part of the structure and materials, but without letting it sacrifice the final result.

The astounding circular stairwell allows easy access to the breath-taking rooftop which has exceptional views of the Sea Point surroundings. Made of strongly curved steel coated in black and floated on a marble plinth, the stairwell was designed to “make the journey to this area of the apartment more profound, thanks to the introduction of a sculptural element”.

As the signature dish implies, the overall design was inspired by the po-boy dives of New Orleans- high volume sandwich shops popular with working class “poor boys” of the day. The historic neighborhood shops are simple yet elaborate with memorabilia, mahogany wood, cement tiles and long central counters for service.
