In the context of a 17th-century building, Italian design consultancy Studiopepe interprets the shapes, colours and materials of women’s fashion brand Alysi into a sculptural interior. The design of the space becomes an abstraction of feminine textures, with visual transitions through the muted, balanced colours.

The interior has been separated into three distinct areas, although a determined visual language is clearly communicated by the encompassing palette. The visitor enters an introductory space which is soft in its use of muted grey walls that meet speckled marble floors inlaid with abstract polychrome marble formations. Sinewy white clothing racks are thoughtfully arranged along the walls – insinuating the clothing into its context.

A linear ceiling installation of thin black metal bars becomes a directional force that guides the eye to the inward spaces. Moving further within the Alysi store, angular swatches of pale apricot that have been painted in the transitory space direct people into a curved tunnel that arrives in the accessories display. Here, the design element of elongated ovals is reiterated in a repeating wall installation for shoes.

The final space – the dressing lounge – is wrapped in muted grey and pale green with soft carpeting and luxuriously pooled curtains. The oval reappears in the shape of the thinly framed full-length mirrors, concluding for the visitor a contemporary translation of femininity. Tranquil colours and soft fabrics are balanced by angular installations of stone in a historical interior that is respectfully mediated through Studiopepe’s contemporary design.
