The concept of la bella figura – which in English largely translates into ‘keeping up appearances’ – may have been coined by Italians, like the wonderful peacocks they are, but it’s definitely a perception of life the neighbouring spaniards can identify with as well. A short afternoon stroll in downtown Madrid, the stomping ground of the city’s well-heeled, should suffice to see the extent of how they’ve also mastered the art of a polished appearance, embracing all the prerequisite luxury brands that come with it. The house of Dior has been a fixture in the leafy Salamanca shopping district for many years, catering to a demographic of highly discerning Madrileñas, and following an extensive renovation, its boutique festively reopened. The store occupies two floors and features an 18th Century-inspired setting that mimics the original Dior flagship boutique on avenue Montaigne in Paris, featuring modern furnishings with the Cannage motif and the gray tones favoured by designer Christian Dior serve to enhance the house’s creations.
Upon entering, shoppers are greeted by the accessories collections, displayed in a pared-down space with tavel stone flooring. An adjacent room presents accessories and perfumes, followed by a footwear space adorned by a mural by artist Oyoram. One floor up, a herringbone-pattern parquet floor extends throughout the rooms in which shoppers can discover the ready-to-wear and Dior Maison collections. Power shopping fatigue? Mo worries. When weather permits, the secluded back garden with furnished patio offers a peaceful setting where to recharge for the next splurge. The new Dior boutique was inaugurated with a lavish Dior Masked Ball on the majestic premises of Palacio de Los Duques de Santoña, and where a slew of Dior dignitaries, celebs and guests mingled with a fortune-teller, a faun, and other fantastical characters.
