First, we define the identity of the two elements through the difference of materials: the original color of wood constitutes the main tone of the rest space, and the white paint and veneer are a symbol of the symbol of the working space. The project is based on two different kits, the “taster kit”, which aims at promoting the brand, and the “mateo kit”, which compiles the fundamentals of maté into one entity. Qarqa’ also provides a wide range of products, from different yerba maté blends, to bombillas and glass gourds, making the maté experience as accessible and delicious as possible.

The installation consists of a steel skeleton enclosed by a fluorescent pink-orange vinyl. This waterproof plastic material has never been used in a building and was constructed on site in a completely hand-made process. A yellow wooden platform is attached to the installation, continuing the interactive experience by allowing visitors to jump into the canal for a swim.

They melted the interactive zone, entertainment area and mobile office and froze them into two bamboo office camps! They melted the small meeting rooms and brainstorm areas and refroze them into two working capsules! These will bring more efficiency and new experience to the office environment! The usable floorspace is optimized and the design is flexible, as needs of the users might change in the future. During design the various workgroups of the faculty were frequently involved to help them make the transition to the new building and a new work environment. Graphics in the meeting rooms, the labs and in the green moss wall portray the fascinations of the departments.

The pump and mechanical details are intentionally exposed within a metal casework. An old wood beam of the original building is exposed as well to give a contrast between old and new. To mimic the texture of the coffee machine, the designers choose to use the white stone as the material of the counter from the facade all the way into interior space.

An in-the-round central feature of gold powder coated discs and rails, on which key seasonal clothing and accessories pieces are showcased. Lipsy’s shoes and accessories offers are represented in-store for the first time. A gold metallic feature wall and padded pale pink seating create a luxurious, plush backdrop for this department, and key products are displayed on bespoke illuminated stands of white marble porcelain.

A supplementary palette in gold gradients is woven throughout the space, linking the old and new architectural elements. An inherited ornamental ceiling meets with elegant wood panelling, exposed brick walls and concrete beams. Contemporary metal tables and cabinets in pale blue create yet another layer of contrast.

The goal was to to marry both aesthetics of pre-prohibition design along with more modern elements and little nuggets within the details. The glass was inspired by merging elements found within Chattanooga Whiskey’s current bottle, which is a stock bottle by O-I, and glass elements from previously existing Chattanooga distilleries found on their bottles before 1915.

At the ice cream counter (also covered in cow print), customers buy soft-served ice cream or sweets made from milk and head to the floor above. The cow pattern continues on to this floor where a life-size model of a cow blends in with the black-and-white pattern. Beside it, a large toppings bar awaits for the customers to choose their own combinations of fixings for their sweets.

The restaurant is divided into several areas by the patterns on the ceiling and the floor. The feature ceiling in the buffet corner is one of the most distinctive elements of the design. Part of the linear lines on the ceilings is designed to be concave, in order to enhance the height and bring a sense of space.

Three metal-plate roofs refer to the proportions of the house below, and a metal mesh, tensioned between these roofs, give the building its discrete, clean and elegant look, while at night time, the lighting reveals its more complex characteristic—its history.
