Marcelo Burlon Pop-Up store, Tokyo – Japan

March 8th, 2017 by Camra’s blog

Since he first appeared on our radar during his fun-infused Pink is Punk days, Milan-based Marcelo Burlon has come a long way. The multi-tasking Patagonian continues to dip his toe in many pools, but has meanwhile emerged as a streetwear designer with an avid global following. Starting out with a hailed line of T-shirts with exuberant and exotic yet street-cred designs, Burlon gradually expanded his collection to a complete men’s wardrobe, and is now testing the water for further expansion into the retail arena. Not shy of a challenge, he has turned to the savvy Japanese market, and opened a standalone pop-up store in Tokyo’s upscale shopping area of Aoyama.

The store occupies a sparsely furnished subterranean space that uses the building’s concrete shell to its advantage, featuring walls dipped black hue and, as if an altar, a boxy display featuring accessories is placed on an elevated platform in the middle, sports a similar hue. Lining the walls are black metal clothing racks that showcase Marcelo Burlon’s latest apparel collection. And if you’re in the Japanese capital, keep an eye out for Burlon himself, as he’ll be dropping by the store on thu – mar 23 to join the temporary venue’s official opening party and a club night afterwards.
