food market at the ETH Zurich by Barmade Interior Design, Zurich – Switzerland

November 4th, 2016 by Camra’s blog

The three serveries of the „food market“ at the ETH Zurich seem to form a market place. Counters that resemble stalls open up like market stands and appear as simple wooden cubes when closed. The piazza that is formed in the center serves as a space for consuming snacks and as a meeting area.

The diversity of the furnishing throughout the room provides several forms of seating and is designed equally for eating and working. The lighting, a combination of eye-catching pendant luminaires and functional spotlights, also emphasizes certain areas. Despite the big dimensions the „food market“ thereby has a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. To preserve the historical structure of the building, elements like the remarkable ceiling grid have been restored and included in the new design.
