Yeme flagship store by winwin, Bratislava – Slovakia

We designed the flagship first store of Yeme, a new, ambitious supermarket chain to help communicate their unique philosophy: to unite a nostalgia for traditional, tasty, home-made, non-industrial food with the needs of the modern urban dweller and their dynamic lifestyle.

The store is set in a large hall that formerly served as storage facility for a furniture store. In addition to retail spaces, the supermarket contains small-scale food production facilities to produce meat products and a bakery.

We inserted some store departments as design objects in the large and tall hall space.

The empty storage hall space required extensive technological and structural changes. We inserted a steel gallery to create a separate level for administrative spaces and staff facilities. We also created new windows to bring in daylight.

The architectural concept aims to create the atmosphere of a city market hall. We therefore spread design objects reminiscent of market stalls in the empty space.

Each zone of the supermarket aims for a unique atmosphere. We repeat the element of stylized “village houses” with traditional saddle roofs.

Design lighting was selected to underscore the original industrial character of the space.

Supermarket departments are shaped to reference local traditions – inspired by the life of a Slovak village and folk crafts.

We have used massive wood extensively, honoring this most traditional Slovak building material.

The railing of the gallery uses the motive of traditional Slovak lace created with perforated metal sheets.
